We took the FlyAway Shuttle Bus to Union Station, which set us back a grand total of $9 plus tax each. We then took a Metro Red Line train to Hollywood, fortunately for us our motel was just over the road from the Metro station.
Los Angeles is quite a sprawling city making it quite difficult for us to use our favoured form of transport, our feet. The night we arrived we wondered up Hollywood Boulevard, seeing the Walk of Fame trying to figure out who some of the more obscure names are, and we even saw a number of red carpet events including one for Stella McCartney. We even managed to find our way to Mann’s Chinese Theater to seek out the Jackie Chan prints for Anthony to geek out over!
The next day we hopped on a bus and headed down to Venice Beach. We had a lovely day walking along the boardwalk taking in all the characters along the beach and enjoying watching the skateboarders. We also wandered around the historic Canal district seen as how it had featured in a number of our favourite films and TV shows. The water levels were really low, with a number of small row boats looking a little worse for wear in the dirt, but we assumed this was due to the drought in California.
After visiting the canals we continued our walk along the boardwalk right the way along to Santa Monica Beach. We arrived with plenty of time to enjoy the sunset from Santa Monica Pier. We enjoyed a couple of drinks in a bar just up from the pier before grabbing a bus back through Beverly Hills to our hotel in Hollywood. We actually went to Veggie Grill for dinner, which is where we’d gone the previous night as well, we have a problem…
The following day we were due to fly to Fiji but since we didn’t need to be at the airport until the afternoon we used an Uber voucher we had left over to get a ride up to Griffith Observatory. The Observatory is a great place to visit to be able to get a great view of the Hollywood sign as well as views out over the whole city. Unfortunately despite the sunny weather the smoggy cloud hindered our views over the city but it was still a worthwhile visit.
After grabbing lunch in the café, we walked back down through Griffith Park all the way back to our motel.
We took the metro train and shuttle bus back to the airport bringing our North America trip to an end.
