The Big Trip: Jaffray

We left Calgary on Christmas Eve and started to make our way to the small rural area of Jaffray.

The journey took a little longer than expected due in part to the deteriorating weather but also because it took us a while to sort out our groceries for the following few days.  Shopping for Christmas dinner on Christmas Eve is never going to be a good plan!

We stayed at Rosen Lake in a log cabin which we rented through Air BnB.  If you want to see photos of the cabin not under four foot of snow, be sure to check out their Air BnB page here.  It was the perfect getaway for our first Christmas away from our family and friends.

The cabin had a TV and DVD player but didn’t have wifi and barely had any telephone connection.  We enjoyed the peace and quiet, making our own log fires and relaxing on the sofa watching movies.

Christmas Day we cooked our own vegetarian Christmas meal but only after we’d dug out the snow that had accumulated around the car and dug our way down to the lake.

We gave you a guided tour of the cabin and spread a bit of Christmas cheer in our video here, be sure to check it out if you haven’t already.

Sadly we only spent two nights in the cabin, leaving on Boxing Day to begin our trip through the Canadian Rockies.  Here are a few of our favourite photos from our time relaxing in the snow.
