The Big Trip: Calgary

As mentioned in our previous post we left San Francisco for Calgary.

We flew with United Airlines since they offered the cheapest tickets. We booked ourselves in for a night at a hotel near the airport, which also offered a free shuttle service to and from the airport, which meant it would be easy for us to collect our rental car the following morning. Unfortunately, we were delayed by several hours meaning we missed the free shuttle service to our hotel. Fortunately a quick call to the hotel and a taxi swiftly arrived meaning we were able to get a few hours sleep before returning to the airport to collect our car. What we saw of the hotel was lovely and the staff were really friendly and helpful.

We hired a small SUV which was perfect for not only driving around the cities but also the mountains. If you’re driving around in winter make sure that you have snow tyres fitted.

We stayed in an Air BnB apartment in The Guardian in Calgary‘s East Village. The apartment was perfect, since it meant we had our own kitchen and off road parking, and our host was wonderful. It felt very much like a home from home and was certainly an uplifting change after staying in so many hotels.

We enjoyed exploring the local area, which was full of wonderful coffee shops and boutique stores, as well as the downtown shopping area.

We also took a drive out to the Chinook Centre to grab some tacky Christmas sweaters and to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Our time in Calgary sped by and before we knew it, it was time to head to our surprise Christmas location. If you haven’t already checked out our video, be sure to view it here.

Sadly we didn’t take many photos in Calgary, so here’s a couple of our favourites.
