San Francisco was our final stop before we dropped off our car. After that we visited Canada for Christmas and then returned to the states ahead of our flight out to Fiji, but we’ll cover that when we eventually get to it!
When we were in Monterey Bay, in order to get discounted tickets for the aquarium, we bought an Official San Francisco City Pass as it was heavily discounted on Rent A Guide at the time. We had previously had a City Pass for Paris and found the discounts, and queue jumping feature, to be invaluable so thought it was worth a try.
Included in the pass, as well as tickets for the aquarium, were passes for a Blue and Gold Fleet Bay Cruise plus tickets for the California Academy of Sciences and The Exploratorium so that sorted out our activities for while we were in the city!
The Bay Cruise was great! We sailed past the Pier 39 Sea Lions, learning about the history of the city all with the beautiful skyline in view. We sailed underneath the Golden Gate Bridge and right round Alcatraz Island before returning back to the dock. It was a great way to see the city with limited time so if you’re interested make sure that you either go on the first trip, or the last, of the day to ensure it’s not too busy.
The following day we were due to return our car and fly out to Calgary but we had time in the morning to visit the Exploratorium. The museum has many different science experiments set up in interactive exhibits; it was a great way to spend our morning.
We’re disappointed that we didn’t have the opportunity to explore the city further but were pleased with everything we got to see and do. Hopefully, in the future, we’ll be able to return and take in more of the city itself.
For now, if you haven’t seen our video already it’s available here and here are a few of our favourite photos.
