The Big Trip: Washington DC

Sadly we only stayed one night in Washington DC, simply because accommodation in the city is very expensive. Fortunately we visited on a Sunday allowing us to forego the expensive valet parking charges and park on the street for free. One word of advice, be sure to double check the road signs to make sure you won’t be towed in the early hours of the morning!

Once we were settled into our hotel, we spent the afternoon taking in the historic sites from the Lincoln Memorial to the Jefferson Memorial and along to The Capitol and The White House.

You can easily walk the route between each of the sites but be warned, the round trip is just under 10 miles in distance!

Here’s a quick map of the route we took just in case you find yourself in the city with an afternoon to spare.

Sadly we didn’t have time to visit any of the city’s famous museums or galleries as we always try to take in as much of whatever makes the location unique and we feel by concentrating on the landmarks we managed to do this.
