Anthony turned 30 in January 2014 and for his birthday Kelly arranged a trip to Barcelona to celebrate. No wonder he married her…!
Staying at the Novotel Barcelona City we easily managed to get the Metro from the airport to five minutes from the hotel.
After settling in the hotel we went for a walk to explore the city taking in a lot of the sights.
The next day we spent taking in all things Gaudi, visiting La Sagrada Familia, followed by Park Guell and the beautiful buildings along Passeig de Gracia.
Feeling a little worse for wear the following day we headed out of the city to Montserrat to visit the monastery and explore the surrounding landscape.
Again, we didn’t have any problems with the public transport and had no issues working out where we had to go to get on the cable car to get up the mountain.
The monastery is worth a visit, especially to see the black faced Madonna in the basilica.
From the monastery you can get on the funicular which will take you to the mountain top allowing you to explore the national park.
If you’re planning on heading up the mountain, we recommend wearing sensible walking shoes and nerves of steel for descending the peak!
On our final day we had a very chilled out day exploring Las Ramblas and the beach before flying back to the UK.
